    • New Brunswick Environmental Network

      Apr 2010 - Dec 2012
      Caucus and Events Coordinator

I wanted to work for the New Brunswick Environmental Network because its focus was on supporting environmental organisations across the province in their collective efforts and was the glue that allowed for focused impact, advocacy and action. I wanted to work on improving New Brunswick's environment in a shared and more efficient way. In this role I: -Lead, coached, and supported a New Brunswick based youth peer network that resulted in youth stepping into local leadership roles. -Designed, planned, and facilitated effective meetings in both official languages that satisfied partners and drove actions. -Produced clear, concise, and timely minutes and reports that documented the future direction of the team that engaged partners Show less

    • WA Action

      Jan 2013 - Feb 2018
      Community Coordinator

I took on this role because it had an ambitious vision that focused on finding cross-sector collective action to reduce poverty in New Brunswick. This cannot be done alone and the organisational reputation was questionable at that time. I wanted to see how I might be able to shift local perceptions of the work and build trust to move collective action. In this role I: -Invested time in building relationships and learning about the communities and context the co-op was working within. This relationship building resulted in an organisational focus on amplifying and linking its members with funds, information, and each other to maximize their social impact. -Led the establishment of organisational policies, processes, and administrative structures, which resulted in the co-op achieving its mission and honouring its funding and administrative commitments. -Worked with limited oversight and guidance, met quarterly with the board, and built their trust by meeting outcomes and showing progressive improvement. -Developed, maintained, and managed project partnerships in Southeast NB, which allowed the co-op to have a lean organisational structure and wide reaching programming impact. • Joanna Brown Consulting

      Apr 2018 - now
      Owner - Principal Consultant

I established my own consultancy about 2 years ago so I could choose projects that would allow me to apply processes in a manner that help people step into connection, creativity and curiosity together. My focus is on finding projects that help make every day a little better - even if it means people feel truly heard during meetings and consultations. In this work I: -Coordinate short and long-term projects year round in a manner that ensures all my clients have received a quality product in our established timeline. -Maintain a full docket of projects and am building my client roster since opening my doors in spring 2018. Projects have included: United Way of Greater Moncton’s strategic planning process, design and host provincial mental health services user experience interviews, coaching an ED and board through process that resulted in a shared decision to close their organisation, and lead a newcomer medical navigation consultation process.-Dedicated myself and time to projects I care about, see NouLAB director role. • NouLAB - Social and Public Innovation Lab

      May 2019 - Jan 2020
      NouLAB Interim Director

For nine months I chose to invest my time and Joanna Brown Consulting to solely focus on NouLAB because I wanted to work with a talented team, deepen my knowledge of social innovation lab processes and associated impacts and practice my team leadership. During this time I:Designed, prepared, and facilitated: sprints, capacity building workshops, and complex organisational meeting designs with the NouLAB team. - Worked on the: Economic Immigration Standing lab sprint, Social Innovation Capacity Building Academy sprint, a number of Complex Convenings for Veterans Affairs Canada, a Climate Change Consultation Process and various capacity building webinars. Supported the NouLAB team in day to day operations of the organisation. Maintained and built relationships with NouLAB core partners and cultivated new business opportunities for our team. Navigated, with the NouLAB team, a directional pivot by our host organization, which is now transitioning towards a new business model and strategy. Show less
