As a result children will develop a more sophisticated frontal lobe function, and move from reacting impulsively under stress to reflecting, and benefitting profoundly from theory of mind. This is partly due to the fact that, in the context of the therapeutic relationship, reflection and mentalisation, have been modelled by the therapist.Trainees will master skills in containment, self-regulation, finding the child’s meaning, and how to stay with deep feelings. All clinical skills taught on the course are underpinned with an in-depth and advanced understanding of child and adolescent developmental theory, child psychiatry, knowledge of relevant medication, safeguarding and child protection policies, legal and ethical issues. • Manford Primary School

      Oct 2020 - Jan 2024
      Learning Mentor

I work in a Primary School as a learning mentor. In my role I support children, from reception to year six, with their mental health. I was given my own office that I turned into the 'Rainbow Room' a safe space for all children to be who they are and share their inner thoughts and feelings. I am always outside on the playground getting to know the children across the school. All children know me as the smiley teacher who will always play with them. Creating a bond so playful with children across the school, means I can identify children who may need extra therapeutic and mental health support. In my role I have undertaken lots of training which you can find on my profile. I offer 1:1 therapeutic play sessions, 1:1 Drawing and Talking sessions, LEGO Therapy, group emotional literacy sessions and much more. I have turned my role into something I hope is so integral within the school. I have developed a whole school approach to supporting children with their mental health. I lead parent coffee mornings, whole Key Stage Assemblies, year group workshops and much more to raise awareness of everyone’s mental health and how to support ourselves. I have taken on a key role in safeguarding children. Within my time I have taken on many disclosures and supported the children and their families through the social care process. I have a genuine passion for helping young people and their families non-judgementally. Show less

      Pastoral Inclusion Manager

Supporting young people who struggle to come into school and access education for a variety of reasons (mental health and/or physical health) My job is to support students and reintegrate them back into school. ~ There is a main classroom (away from the rest of the school) in which the young people do their learning and get support from myself and our wonderful LSA team. I also support the young people 1:1 with their mental health using my counselling & therapeutic skills.
