  Following completion of my first year at University I was successful in obtaining work experience during the summer at a local Engineering Company. I was employed on a voluntary basis to gain an insight into how a manufacturing company operates. TecQuipment are involved in all stages of a product; they design, manufacture, test, improve and market their products all over the world. During my time there I was able to take part in all of these stages from using the Computer Aided Design software to using Multiple Axial CNC Lathes. Show less

  Aerospace Project Engineer

  During my final summer break before returning to Uni for my 4th year, I worked at Aerodyn for 3 months. This was a paid internship and really gave me a good insight into a growing engineering firm. During my stay there I had the role of a Project Engineer. I was involved in most aspects of the company, tasks included: Tech Resource Scheduling, Team Management which included organising staff from the American office to come to the UK at times of high workload, Communicating with suppliers and customers on a regular basis, Modelling of lead-out cables for gas turbine blades on Siemens NX software in partnership with Rolls Royce, Practical experience applying various instrumentation devices onto these blades and finally drafting of various parts. Overall from this placement I have had to adapt from a Mechanical Engineer to an Aerospace Mechanical Engineer. Standards and specifications, Quality / Attention to detail, Time management, Risk Management and the ability to present material to various target audiences are all extremely important to this sector and I feel I adapted accordingly.   Design future concepts tools which are used for oil and gas exploration. I am also constantly upgrading the companies previous tools which are being pushed to work at extreme temperatures and pressures. (21000psi & 210C) This role includes the design and manufacture of multiple test rigs/jigs/fixtures to prove theories and also a lot of DfMA, FMEA, risk assessment and organisation. Results interpretation, stress/fluid analysis, liaising with subcontractors and complex mechanical calculations are but a few of the daily tasks I complete along with project management, leadership of staff and presenting findings to staff/customers across the globe.
