      Junior Consultant - Market Study

      • Undertook Market Study for Kenya Market-led Dairy Program (KMDP II) for medium and large scale dairy farmers and dairy cooperatives in North Rift Region. The goal was to an improve business and investment climate of the Kenyan dairy sector resulting to increased income, enhanced employability, food security and increased international linkages.• Participated in data collection, cleaning and analysis using SPSS, report writing and documentation, coordinated and planned field days and compiling farm and cooperative reports and generated recommendations for action from available data.• Created market linkages between farms/cooperatives and ISPs and generated condensed list for improved availability of affordable and good quality practical training, extension and farm advisory services for farmers and other value chain actors.• Contributed to KMDP II’s systemic change on various issues in dairy sector which included; practical training on the role of fodder, the introduction of new innovations (e.g. maize train, silage, Rumen8 software), establishment of various viable service delivery models and companies relevant to small and large farms, and increased awareness on the importance of milk quality among key sector stakeholders Show less

      • Promoting gender equality. Led End Period Shame campaigns in 60+ primary schools in Nandi County by raising awareness on menstrual health and hygiene and on teenage pregnancies. We also give out sanitary pads to the girls in all our visits and more than 5000 girls have benefited so far from this initiative.• Creation of awareness on Gender-based Violence. Collaborating with the County Government and other local NGOs around, to do sensitization campaign that shape the conversations surrounding GBV thus reducing the severity and frequency of the vice. We continue doing yearly campaigns during the 16 Days of Activism against GBV and currently pushing for the construction of a safe house and inclusion of women interests in our activities and discussions.• Led the development of gender transformation strategy to guide the integration approaches into all program activities, including technical implementation, monitoring, operations, policies, and procedures.• Providing technical advice and trainings to program staff, partners, and stakeholders to build their capacity to integrate gender, youth, and other relevant social considerations into designing interventions, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.• Led in women and youth economic empowerment through sensitization on the available opportunities offered by the government. In conjunction with Youth Enterprise Fund, local banks and other private organizations, we have an annual one week activity geared towards mobilizing the youth to take advantage of youth friendly loans offered by the government i.e. Youth fund, women enterprise fund and uwezo funds by organizing themselves and registering in groups. The registered groups are then capacity built on group dynamics, proposal writing, financial literacy amongst other topics. We have trained more than 150 youth and women groups and more than 150 groups have received funds and thus improved livelihoods in rural communities. Show less
