Sophrology is a well-being technique, new to the UK but practiced in France for half a century. It consists of simple movements, breathing techniques and visualisation excercises that are easy to use in everyday life. It was designed by Alfonso Caycedo, a Colombian Neuropshychiatrist and means the study of consciousness in harmony. Sophrology takes it's roots in Yoga nidra, Tibetan Buddhist meditation and Japanese Zen, and is used in healthcare, sports, education, as well as personal growth and well being. It's three principles are: Body Consciousness; Positive Action; Objective Reality. In Sophrology, we work on the level of consciousness where the brain is relaxed and alert, between awake and dozing, therefore, naturally helping to rebalance areas of body and mind that most need it through tailored exercises. This usually results in an improved state of consciousness. The Sophrologist is only guiding and not analyzing or "pushing" the client; the Practitioner is not lecturing either. The relation with the client is purely one to one without any preconceived ideas. It is called an alliance and is based on trust. Clients work at their own level, following and developing their own intuition and awareness of what their personal needs are "here and now", acknowledging what works for them and taking the tools home for day to day training.I assist clients improve their well-being at work, in educational institutions and at home in the following areas:Wellbeing for all ages: Stress, self-development, creativity, self confidence, self-esteem, managing emotions, self-image and weight problems, increasing energy levels.Therapeutic Complement: Anxiety, burnout, phobias, sleep problems and insomnia, addiction, pain management, digestive issues, IBS & ME, chronic fatigue, depression, tinnitus, hyperactivity in children.Preparing for a Forthcoming Event: Exams, interviews, speech, pre-natal, sports competitions, stage performances. Show less I am a qualified French teacher with 25 years experience in France and the UK from nursery school ages to Baccalaureate level. I studied Shivananda Yoga in the 1980s and used it in classrooms as a relaxation technique with parental permission. I started studying Martial Arts in 2000 and recently obtained a Black Belt in Karate, which has been wonderful to master as a discipline that teaches self respect and develops commitment. Becoming a Sophrology practitioner was the next step.Previous to becoming a Sophrology practitioner, I taught Karate to children at beginner levels and adults at intermediate levels. I view Karate as a great way to develop physical and mental skills, which can contribute to better health and confidence. When I was invited to hear a speech by Florence Parot about her School of Sophrology, the first one in the UK, I immediately decided to be a candidate for the next training course: every word she said echoed with the benefits of my three passions in life: yoga, meditation and zen. I realised that by learning Sophrology I would be able to study the benefits of all three in one subject, which I could then pass on to friend, family and the general public... and what better way to carry on to my 3rd age, because in the end, Sophrology becomes a way of life.
