YWCA Monterey County Intern Legal Advocate

I was a CSUMB student doing my internship in YWCA of Monterey County as a Legal Advocate Intern helping victims filling legal paperwork that involves with Restraining Order and Civil Harassment Order, court accompanies, intake and surveys phone/person, note-taking, and translation of documents (English to Spanish).Project Measuring Client Satisfaction at the Legal Advocacy Program of the YWCA of Monterey County Agency This Capstone consisted of the creation of a new survey instrument to measure client satisfaction with the services that could also be used for evaluation purposes. The survey instrument was completed and approved in December 2018. After clients completed the legal process, they were asked to answer a quick 15-question survey, and a 13 questions survey. To avoid bias, Legal Advocates did not distribute the surveys; instead, the intern completed the survey with clients. Twenty questionnaires were filled Between February 2019 & March 2019.This capstone project helped the agency understand the low numbers are not caused by clients being unsatisfied with the services; on the contrary, they are pleased with the services. The lack of clients may be caused by a lack of awareness about the program, the services, and the fact that the services are free. Continuing use of these surveys will help the Legal Advocacy program collect data for their grants reports. The continuing use of these surveys will help the Legal Advocacy program collect data for their grants reports. The main recommendation is for the program to continue reaching out to victims so that they are aware of the services. Immigrants tend to be fearful of the courts and the legal system in general, so services like these need to go the extra mile in letting potential clients that these services will help them.
