My core focus for the year was Chinese language and culture. These classes involved three separate excursions and trips which immersed me in the various minorities, politics, and cultures of western and southern China. In addition, elective courses such as business and environmental studies provided the opportunity to meet scientists and businessmen and discuss the complex challenges that they face in generating revenues while still attempting to preserve what is left of the natural environment. During breaks I had the time to travel across the majority of China as well as return to Hong Kong for an extended period and continue my Cantonese language learning. Show less
