    • Kasteel Amerongen

      Aug 2013 - Aug 2015
      Tour Guide

As an official guide of the historic Castle Amerongen, I provide tours of up to one hour showing visitors the ins-and-outs of the castle. During every tour, my job is to both entertain, educate, and to excite people about the past and present of the castle. In addition I have helped the staff in various logistical and administrative functions whenever necessary. In particular, I did a three-month internship in 2015 where I researched and developed a new tour focused on the history of animals at castles such as Amerongen from ancient times till today. For this internship I had to both independently research historical sources and creatively connect these to the castle's existing collection. During this internship I also copy-edited and voiced the Castle's new English Audio Tour. Show less

    • Utrecht University

      Dec 2015 - now
      PHD Candidate

As a PhD candidate I engage in independent research under the supervision of Em. prof. dr. Ton Hoenselaars and Dr. Lieke Stelling. My research topic is the Anglophone scholarly discourse on non-Anglo-American Shakespeare (i.e. Shakespeare produced outside of Britain and the United States) in the period 1970s-2010s. For this research I combined broad overviews of a wide variety of scholarly material considering non-Anglo-American Shakespeares with concrete case studies to reveal the connections between structural issues and specific problems in the way these Shakespeares have been considered and understood. My dissertation argues for the continuing presence of a bias towards Anglo-American perspectives in Anglophone Shakespeare scholarship in spite of the recent globalization of the field and its greater appreciation for so-called alternative Shakespeares.
