      Apr 2011 - May 2017

I worked on the institutional communications team in Loyola’s office of marketing and communications, where I coordinated all media requests for general coverage, experts, and official comment, and managed Loyola’s presence across major social media channels. I wrote and disseminated press releases for major Loyola news in collaboration with our media relations specialist, who I supervised, and we strategically pitched stories and experts to the media. In addition, I was responsible for planning for, coordinating, and executing university-wide crisis communications. I worked with the director of marketing and communications and AVP of marketing and communications to develop strategic communications plans and messaging to reach and influence a variety of internal and external audiences, often regarding sensitive issues. Together we ensured the university’s communications and content strategies aligned with Loyola's mission, vision, values, and overall brand.Additional responsibilities:• Served as university spokesperson• Prepared members of senior leadership to serve as spokesperson• Strategically pitched stories, major university announcements, and experts to the media• Maintained crisis communications plan• Served on Emergency Management Team• Produced and posted multimedia content for Loyola’s website and social media channels• Served as social media consultant to the campus community• Provided media training for campus stakeholdersMajor accomplishments snapshot:• Redrafted university-wide crisis communications plan• Created Loyola’s primary Instagram account; our photos averaged 8,000 organic impressions each by 2017 (I took nearly every photo)• Placed two enterprise stories on the front page of The Baltimore Sun• Developed and executed communications plans and messaging in response to several complex crises and incidents Show less In my first role at Loyola, I coordinated all media requests for general coverage, experts, and official comment, and audited/assumed control of/managed Loyola’s social media presence. May 2017 - Feb 2019
      Director of Communications

At the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security I collaborated with a diverse staff (~30) to promote research and advocacy that strengthens policies meant to protect people’s health from the consequences of epidemics and other disasters. For nearly 20 years after its inception, the Center never benefited from a cohesive communications strategy or vision to support its mission, and its brand suffered as a result. I was hired to stand up its entire communications effort and identify opportunities to make its existing promotional work more effective and efficient. As a team, we applied a standardized, flexible, scalable communications checklist to each individual Center project (15+) to ensure consistency while balancing internal and client/funder expectations and priorities.Additional responsibilities:• Coordinated all media requests• Wrote and disseminated press releases • Managed a web designer and provided editorial direction on a redesign of the Center’s entire website • Wrote stakeholder communications on behalf of Center leadership • Photographed events and other activities when needed• Provided media training for Center staff• Managed and produced content for the Center’s presence across major social media channels • Grew relationships with communications teams in the Bloomberg School of Public Health and JHU’s central communications office • Drafted or edited op-eds submitted to prominent publicationsMajor accomplishments snapshot:• Managed livestream of the Clade X pandemic exercise, likely the first national policy-level exercise ever to be broadcast in real time (project required extensive planning and coordination with web designer, outside graphic designers, and video vendor)• Heavily contributed to, edited, and pitched op-eds to The Hill and the Baltimore Sun, among other publications• Grew Twitter following by more than 25%• Distilled multiple lengthy, comprehensive reports into press releases that resulted in media coverage Show less
