It was established to define the USMC's approach to enterprise geospatial systems and create a common infrastructure foundation that supports inter-operability across the Marine Corps and delivers authoritative geospatial data. The program's annual awards recognize USMC personnel who best use geospatial information to further the Marine Corps installation management mission.MCAS Yuma is the USMC's premier aviation training base, serving approximately 5,000 active duty Marines. With 2.8 million acres (11 km²) of bombing and aviation training ranges and superb flying weather, MCAS Yuma supports 80 percent of the Marine Corps' air-to-ground aviation training. Spurred by significant concerns about the integrity and condition of the base's aging potable water distribution system, whose failure would directly impact the Air Station's mission, MCAS Yuma initiated a study to determine system deficiencies and make recommendations for improvements, future maintenance, and increased safety and reliability. The study focused on developing a GIS-integrated software model of the Air Station's potable water system using MWH Soft InfoWater software. Three scenarios were modeled: current development scenarios at peak and low demand loads, and a future development scenario at peak demand load. Areas of the base which did not meet regulatory requirements for minimum pressures were noted. The accuracy of the model was verified by comparing the results of fire hydrant flow tests with predicted results. The study resulted in an updated maintenance action plan and the immediate implementation of several construction projects.
