  I cofounded chess e-magazine 50 Moves to help promote chess in Australia after the publication Australasian Chess Magazine went out of print at the end of 2013. The magazine has been described by respected chess figures as ‘world-class’ and has subscribers from Australia, New Zealand, the UK, US, Iceland and Estonia.Achievements• Published nine issues of the magazine • Built and managed a team of eight regular contributors and international guests• Conducted player interviews, edited articles and created professional layouts using Adobe Indesign• Grew the business until it became sustainable from recurring revenue, generating income from individual paying subscribers, schools licences and advertising• Established partnerships with tournament organisers, chess clubs, coaching businesses and overseas publications to drive growth• Improved user experience by working with a developer to publish through his e-magazine platform. I had end-to-end responsibility across the product offerings and took the company from near-zero to $1.5 million in Annual Recurring Revenue in two years with more than 1,000 clients and a network of 50+ accounting partners. • Trained the team on best-practice product development and user experience principles, leading to improved discovery and delivery and a more customer-centric approach.• Led the team to redesign the accountant onboarding process with a focus on first-time user experiences, lifting activation rate by 200%.• Improved user experience by removing friction points and simplifying data entry screens, leading to increased engagement and completion of core actions and moved the usage interval from weekly to daily.
