      Responsible for the Engineering Department at Sappi Forest Products Kraft Mill, at Mandeni, reporting to the General Manager.Site consisted of 4 paper machines, producing 1000tpd, 2 Recovery Furnaces, 11 Boilers (Coal and Gas fired; 62 & 14bar); 2 off 9,5 MVA Turbines, Kraft Continuous Digester (560tpd), NSSC Gum Digester(300 tpd) and a Waste Pulp plant (175tpd)Responsible for the departmental compliment of 273 employee’s; consisting of 8 direct reports (Maintenance Managers & Senior Engineers), 4 maintenance support engineers, 21 maintenance foremen & 9 planners and an estimated 150 tradesmen (artisans).OHSA General Machine regulation 2(1) appointee for the site.Responsible for the budgeting and execution of the direct maintenance budget for the site to the annual value of R138M (excluding manpower costs) for the entire facility.During this tenure a successful SAP 4.6 upgrade was completed and various maintenance improvements have been implemented in order to improve plant availability, as well as successful completion of a 3 yearly statutory shut, to the combined value of more than R30M.Focus areas included a restructuring/deployment exercise, re-launching of Total Productive Maintenance Principles, development of a Long Term Maintenance Database and further plant debottle-necking processes.       In addition to the M5 and Finishing & Converting responsibilities below, the M4 paper machine (240 000tpa) and waste paper plant was added to my responsibilities.Compliment reporting to this position, consisted of 2 Engineers, 6 Engineering superintendents and 25 tradesmen (fitters, and EI trades).Responsible for the safe execution of the maintenance function within his area. This includes maintenance plans, shut execution, labor utilization and efficiency as well as interacting with production counterparts in order to ensure the reliable functioning of the plant.Responsible for an annual maintenance budget preparation and control circa value of A$19M/annum. Motivated various equipment reliability improvement and replacements based on financial and reliability enhancement justifications. Show less Responsible for the maintenance of the M5 uncoated Fine Paper Machine (185 000tpa) and associated finishing and converting sections comprising 2 off 12 pocket A4 cut size sheeters and wrapping and palletizing lines.Compliment consisted of 4 superintendents and 15 tradesmen.Responsible for the maintenance function, comprising the compiling, controlling and management of the maintenance budget (A$6M/annum) successful monthly and annual shut execution, maintenance projects, problem solving through root cause analysis.Through a number of minor interventions the machine performance had been continuously improved, resulting in a new annual production record being achieved in December 2010. My responsibility was to identify and motivate a number of maintenance interventions to support this process.In the finishing and converting section the maintenance costs were reduced through improved efficiency.
