  Understand the effect and the mechanism related to skin oxinflammatory and structural damage induced by environmental stressors (i.e particulate matter, ozone) and UV lights. The main inflammatory and oxidative stress pathways have been investigated in several human skin models as 2D human keratinocytes, 3D reconstructed human epidermis (RHE) and human skin biopsies. In particular the project focused on the role of Ozone and its oxidative stress mediators (i.e 4-hydroxy-nonenal and Hydrogen Peroxide) in triggering the activation of the NLRP1 Inflammasome in human skin. In addition, the effect of a prolonged and concomitant exposure of different pollutants, such as Diesel Exhaust (DEE), O3 and UV on human skin biopsies was investigated, with and without the topical application of antioxidant compounds.
