This case highlights one of the most significant challenges facing the finance industry today.Our experience in the competition was instrumental in helping us understand the nuances of how Indigenous priorities extend beyond typical ESG metrics. We were intentional in our choices, recognizing the tension between ESG values and intergenerational wealth. Our proposal emphasized the focus on 'nature-based risks' and 'water security,' which are fundamental Indigenous priorities within ESG. We capped it off with a two-way dialogue and a modified proxy voting model in our ongoing robust management of the fund.The takeaways from this competition go beyond the prize and recognition. We are now better equipped to approach sustainability from a holistic perspective, recognizing the importance of incorporating diverse perspectives and considerations in decision-making. Show less
