  In this role I worked in the Network Management Group (NMG), which formed part of the Telecom’s Information Systems division. This role was part of a team that had a centralised focus on managing LAN/WAN environments across Telecom nationally - including Telecoms Core IT Networks.The job evolved into my current position over time - apart from team name changes etc. Working within Telecom’s BIS division, the purpose of this role was to provide Internal Data Network service delivery in the Central North Island region, including the network operation, problem management, performance measurement, facilitating hardware installations and alterations to the network as required.Case DCX Network, WAN Circuit Link management, IBM controllers, PC Support, Wang terminals, IBM Terminals and User support. This role initially involved maintaining modems, mechanical teleprinters and banking equipment for the New Zealand Post Office (which was privatised to Telecom NZ during my time there).It evolved to include data analysis, administration of WAN networks, computer and data communications, bridging and routing. I also was involved in providing support for computer system equipment, ATMs, terminals, printers, facsimilies, modems, NTU's, X.25 PADs, D0 Muxes etc..

  Senior Systems Support Specialist - Network

  Currently a “Senior Systems Support Specialist – Network” (Senior Cisco Network Engineer) in the Network & Security Operations (NSO) team within Telecom NZ Ltd.15 years in a Technology and Shared Services function and reporting to the Manager Network & Security, the purpose of this role is to provide management and support of Telecom’s Internal Data Network (LAN/WAN). This role is part of a small team of 7 technical specialists providing national coverage out of Hamilton and Auckland to Telecom’s Datacentres, Corporate Sites, Exchange sites, linkages to external Partners and Internet connectivity including security functions.Extensive experience in Cisco LAN/WAN infrastructure technologies within the various IT environments. Involved working in design management, project implementation, capacity management, change management, monitoring, maintaining, troubleshooting and incident and problem management.
