      Master of Science (M.Sc.) Environmental Conservation

      Activities and Societies: Society for Conservation Biology I received my M.Sc. in Environmental Conservation from UW-Madison's Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, a professional masters program designed to train conservation leaders in practical interdisciplinary skills, including conservation planning, land use policy, conservation fundraising, program evaluation, and strategic communications. I completed my M.Sc. work with the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute researching human-elephant conflict in Gabon.

My honors thesis compared tribal and state management of gray wolves, examining historical, cultural, and political contexts.

      I consulted on performance and business analysis activities for the administration and implementation of environmental programs in the Midwest, including for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and sustainability initiatives. My work included program design and analysis, contract management, and financial analysis. I developed and implemented an Environmental Management System for the Focus on Energy Program which achieved certification to ISO 14001:2004 to reduce environmental impacts and foster an environment of social responsibility and continual improvement.       I oversee the Natural Resources Foundation’s grant programs and initiatives that invest over $1 million annually in protecting Wisconsin's landscapes and imperiled wildlife species, building climate resiliency, and connecting people and communities to nature. I work closely with partners across the state to ensure that our Foundation has the most significant impact possible on Wisconsin’s lands, waters, and wildlife through strategic, science-based investments, while also improving access to and equity in the outdoors for all. My work encompasses strategy and partnerships, project and team management, grantmaking, fundraising and budget management, and diversity, equity and inclusion. Show less

      Completed leadership placement with SCBI’s Gabon Biodiversity Program as part of the Nelson Institute’s Environmental Conservation Master’s Program. Collaborated with scientists and practitioners to research local risk to crop raiding by forest elephants in Gabon, helping to build knowledge and identify solutions to this human-wildlife conflict that impacts farmers, local communities, and wildlife populations in Central Africa. Built local capacity for conservation via planning and grantwriting trainings to program staff and partners. Developed a Forest Elephant Conservation Plan for the Gamba Complex of Protected Areas.
