Attending two high schools, a College Board A.P. affiliate and an International Baccalaureate school, widened my experiences and influenced my decision to pursue education as a career path.At the University of Michigan, I studied through both the College of Literature, Science & the Arts and the College of Education. As an Honors Program student, I pursued more rigorous coursework and worked one-on-one with English and history faculty as I developed my undergraduate thesis. In addition to my on-campus endeavors, I volunteered through the University Mentorship Program, the George School, and Saturn Middle School (MN). My practicum and student-teaching experiences were at the independent Greenhills School (Ann Arbor) and Saline High School. Show less

      M.a. humanities

Activities and Societies: Honors Graduate The Masters in Humanities Program included a variety of courses in literature, history, art, architecture, philosophy, and music. These courses helped me add cultural and creative elements to course endeavors, as well as develop successful "art & architecture" student tours of Detroit and Chicago.

      English department chair

As an educational leader and lifelong learner, I teach and continuously develop curricula for a range of courses and grade levels, including A.P. English, World History, Humanities, Film Lit., American/British Lit. & Comp., Debate, and Creative Writing. Having instructed on-site, remotely, and via summer sessions, I employ a range of approaches and engagement strategies, while also maintaining rigor and academic integrity. In addition to these courses, I teach two courses I co-created: The Power of Language, a junior-level college-prep. course, and Theory, an intro. to philosophy and epistemology.I encourage students to challenge themselves, and I do likewise. Through concerted efforts to encourage more students to elect A.P. course offerings, current enrollment has doubled from a few years ago. Students with a wider range of skill levels are now in the course, yet my colleagues and I have maintained an impressively high exam pass rate of 85% or higher, one of the highest averages in the country. Leading in a variety of ways, including as department chair, I attempt to inculcate leadership qualities in my students. Our district uses the Professional Learning Communities model, and I have served as team leader through a range of endeavors, including curriculum development, equitable grading, and Common Core alignment. Additionally, I help lead district workshops and have received training in AVID and Kepner-Tregoe Decision Analysis. I have also served through NCA/AdvancED roles and membership on the district's Academic Integrity and 21st Century Schools committees. I frequently collaborate with administrators and colleagues, guiding dept. endeavors and policies. Beyond my instructional and leadership roles, I have coordinated and led multiple class trips and projects. I also serve as teacher-advisor for Interact, a student-led volunteer organization sponsored by Rotary International. Our chapter is one of the largest and most active student clubs at South.
