  The Summer Service Program, founded in 1957, provides students with an opportunity to make a positive difference, serving and engaging with the wider community for a 10-week summer volunteer experience. The program places an emphasis on leadership development, personal and spiritual growth, and reflection on what it means to be a socially responsible citizen. At the center of the program is the opportunity to develop one’s skills in interfaith leadership, intentionally engaging with others across lines of difference to help make a more peaceful and just world.   Cosecha is a nonviolent movement fighting for permanent protection, dignity, and respect for the 11 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. I joined the movement as a fellow and used non-cooperation to leverage the power of immigrant labor and consumption to force a meaningful shift in public opinion. As a fellow I learned to organize the community to fight against SB4, the racist law that passed in Texas that discriminates against people of color. I supported in planning weekly community gatherings, action-planning meetings, and other actions/events. Because one of our principles is that everything we need is within the community, we worked and lived together.   Serve as the Economic Justice Manager in which I primarily head the Economic Liberation Project. The Economic Liberation Project initiative, in collaboration with the Long Beach Economic Development Department, and the UCLA Labor Center, aims to empower undocumented immigrants by providing them with resources to start their own businesses. The program offers workshops, training, and support to help participants overcome barriers and achieve economic stability.
