      PhD candidate

Research topic: Using forecasts to operate a solar power plant. More specifically, calculating the financial benefit of using forecasts to operate a concentrated solar thermal (CST) power plant.Research approach: Simulate the operation of a CST plant in hourly intervals for one year in different scenarios based on forecast method, location, and solar power plant configuration. Evaluate performance by calculating summary statistics of forecast errors, and calculating and plotting annual performance metrics for each scenario.Forecast methods: Physics-based numerical weather prediction model, statistics-based ARIMA model, baseline persistence modelResearch outcome:A combination of short-term forecasts 1-hour ahead and storage provides the largest financial benefit to a CST plant. March 2014 - June 2015Head Tutor for MECH9720 Solar Thermal Energy Designo Developed teaching material:1. A video explaining how to conduct multiple-linear regression in Excel; the video is still used as a teaching resource.2. A guide to identify outliers in numerical data.o Developed assessment material:1. Lab instructions and marking rubric for a new concentrating collector lab experiment that was introduced in 2015 and is still used.2. An assessment that uses the National Renewable Energy Laboratory’s System Advisor Model for introducing in 2017.o Coordinated leading tutorials and marking assessments among 5 tutors. Show less

Digital Alchemy is a marketing consultancy that provides services in marketing automation, analytics, reporting, and strategy.May 2019 - Oct 2020 (1 year 5 months)Data Science TeamWorked on B2C marketing for clients in the Retail and Retail Banking industries1. Helped financial services client prioritise the most valuable customers to target by * Identifying customers who view the client as a Main Financial Institution according to their product holding and monthly transaction activity * Calculating customer lifetime value according to the predicted likelihood to adopt new products and remain a customer2. Built dashboard in Power BI Desktop to track* The number of MFI customers, so that the client can easily see whether they are gaining or losing valuable customers* Key product ownership and transaction activity that drive MFI, so that the client can identify the causes of rises and falls in the number of MFI customers3. Improved product recommendation for retail client by* Identifying products that customers are more likely to buy based on their price sensitivity (or preference to buy items on discount)* Recommending a threshold for when to offer customers only their preferred brand based on the strength of their preference per product category May 2017 - May 2019 (2 years)Product Engineering Team1. My main responsibilities were designing, developing, and testing code that applies predictive analytics to business to consumer data. and reports results.* Assisted development of proprietary prediction model (to identify customers for targeting) by writing code in Scala and Apache Spark according to the company's coding style guide, and testing the code on local and cluster environments.* Designed process to evaluate the accuracy of proprietary prediction model through applying cross-validation Show less
