  Assistant Teacher

  I was attached to PCF Sparkletots for practicum. My role was to assist the teacher in class. Not only that, I had to plan and implement 3 lessons, which includes Language & Literacy, Numeracy as well as Motor Skills Development. Also, come up with 2 activities for the Numeracy Corner.I have assisted the teacher in areas such as the serving of food, filling up the bottle, laying and stacking of cots and bringing children to the toilet. I was thankful to be given opportunities to implement my lessons to the children. I felt that everything was worth it and motivated to do better as I see the smiles on children's faces. In addition, I have build a good relationship with both the teachers and children. At the end of this practicum, I have learnt and developed many skills such as different ways to manage a class (e.g., sticker reward system etc) and how to ensure my lessons were engaging and fun.   During my 22 weeks internship journey, I was attached to the Nursery 2 class. My centre principal was kind and allowed me to observe the other age groups as well. Getting to help out in the different classes, I got to look at how the teachers manage and interact with their children. At the same time, I noted down some ways that I found were effective from the teachers and tried it with my N2 children. Slowly when I get to understand my children better, I modified my strategies in a way that it suits my class. Coming to implementing lessons, I had to plan and make some changes based on my childrens' interests, needs and abilities so to ensure that they are actively engaged. In addition, I learnt how to work as a team with the other teachers as we plan for events and was able to build good relationships with everyone in the centre. My centre principal was very supportive and would always make time to catch up with me to ensure that I am coping well. She gave me a chance to help out with the administration matters as well. Overall, I had a great and eye-opening experience when it comes to teaching and understand how important it is that there is a strong team for the centre to grow better. My Responsibilities:Planning, Designing, Creating and Implementing of: - Lessons - Classroom Environment - Learning Corner Activities - Take-Home Kit - Teaching aid and resource - Field Trip to Dragon Playground (Singapore Heritage) - Centre event: 1. Book Club Day Assisted in routine cares like:- Serving Breakfast (PG-K2), lunch and teabreak (PG-N2)- Diapering and Showering (PG-N2)- Sanitising, laying and keeping of cots/ tables and chairs Assisted teachers from other classes by helping them to look after when they are busy, facilitate and scaffold children when they were struggling with their work. Trying my best to help them whenever I can as I know how tiring it can be. Show less
