  Using trauma-informed care techniques to work with two boys diagnosed with Sensory Integration Disorder and Reactive Attachment Disorder. They were adopted at a young age due to physical abuse and neglect, and I work with them and their mother to provide a consistent, loving and warm home environment. Working with them has solidified the idea that I want to work with youth from traumatic backgrounds. Averaged over 15 hours per week year-round providing trusted childcare services to approximately 15 different families. Including as many as six children at a time, ages newborn through 12. Engaged in play, cooked meals, transported to activities and cleaned the homes.

  Served as a positive role model to an at risk-youth in a mentor/mentee relationship. Throughout the program, which is the duration of a semester, strong bonds are formed between the pairs as they work together for four hours on a weeknight. As a mentor, I served as part of a dynamic team designed to provide academic, social, and wellness support to youth mentees.

Assists with training, responsible for completing all assigned readings for the course, and facilitating small group discussions about the readings. Providing mentoring supervision to four mentor families, review student mentors’ weekly journal entries, and facilitating an activity for the youth for the first three weeks.
