      Oct 2012 - Jun 2014
      Undergraduate Researcher

My daily tasks included the running of, interpretation and analysis of quantitative (real time) PCR experiments, traditional PCR experiments, DNA gel electrophoresis, DNA purification, BAC DNA preparation and purification, nanodrop, facilitation of cell cultures, working up reagents and solutions, volumetrics (dilutions), autoclaving reagents and materials, and stocking supplies.

    • Seattle Genetics

      Jul 2014 - Aug 2016
      Research Associate

As a research associate in the purification and conjugation department much of my work was devoted to clarification of cell harvest. I removed impurities and debris from the antibody of interest that was later incorporated into an antibody-drug conjugate. I performed this using various purification methods including but not limited to: depth filters, hybrid purifiers, protein a chromatography, anion exchange chromatography, tangential flow filtration, and phenyl membranes. The purification process implements viral reduction methods as well that involved working with contracted FDA approved viral laboratories to perform the viral reduction studies. I also conducted development work at small scale to optimize the aforementioned purification methods in order to lock in our platform purification process for each specific antibody. Show less

      Emergency Room Scribe

My role as a scribe in the emergency department at Providence Centralia Hospital was to directly assist the physicians in their documentation of their patient encounters and to receive communications from the nurses and staff and accurately relay those to the physician. At the emergency department I learned the EMR or electronic medical record (EPIC) format of documentation utilized by the emergency department. Within the EMR I would render the physician patient interaction into 3 sections of documentation: history of present illness (HPI), review of systems (ROS) and the physical exam (PEx). Throughout my time there I became proficient in accurately documenting information in real time, which required fast and precise information capture. The nature of this work sometimes required working for longer than 12 continuous hours which strengthened my mental endurance allowing me to maintain focus, alertness and attention for long periods of time. I also became adept at successfully interacting with patients in emergent situations and appropriately addressing their concerns. Show less

    • Meridian Surgery Center

      Apr 2017 - Feb 2018
      Sterile Tech and Medical Assistant

At Meridian Surgery Center my role was a hybrid one that was fulfilled both in the surgery center and clinic side of the medical facility. On the surgery side I was responsible for cleaning, sterilizing and preparing instrumentation for both laparoscopic and open surgeries. My work also involved admitting patients, preparing the OR between surgeries, maintaining the recovery rooms and discharging patients. My work in the surgery center honed my ability to perform in fast paced medical environments and subsequently improved my ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy and precision. I was also able to strengthen my aptitude for teamwork, often having to communicate and collaborate with nurses and doctors to ensure the surgery center ran efficiently. On the clinic side I assisted with the flow of patient care beginning with coordinating surgical consultations with patients or their providers, retrieving patient's medical records, rooming the patient by taking their vitals, assisting the provider with clinic procedures, scheduling diagnostic tests for patients and scheduling surgeries. I was also involved on the marketing side of the clinic reaching out to healthcare facilities to establish a relationship with the medical providers that we received referrals from. Working on the clinic side allowed me to improve my interpersonal skills that I was able to glean from interactions with patients, colleagues and outside medical personnel. Show less
