Show less After gaining experience from being the Production manager & a general manager, heading a team of 30 staff at North Wales Newspapers Ltd, I was again promoted to the Pre-Press & Contract Print manager. This appointment entailed many roles, all of which provided me with a great deal of experience in becoming the general manager for GLS Coatings, the polyurea coatings, industrial coatings & industrial flooring applications specialists.Some of my roles as the pre-press & contract print manager at North Wales Newspapers Ltd are listed below:- Responsible for all aspects of pre-press & contract print at North Wales Newspapers.- Liaising with clients at the highest level to ensure full technical support which enabled them to transmit PDF pages for printing on our Goss-Web offset press.- Using Agfa Arkitex software, set up colour falls & output configurations to meet the press requirements.- Setting up & using soft-proofing system to assess colour accuracy and copy-checking of every page prior to signing them off for output.- Responsible for all press-scheduling of contract print jobs and full client liaison.- Output 1,000 page negatives a week for all of North Wales Newspapers, together with those of contract print clients.- Full technical knowledge of Agfa software & Autologic 3850 image-setters, triple-I online film processors & plate setter & processors.All of these responsibilities gave me an extremely wide range of knowledge. Show less As the production manager at North Wales Newspapers Ltd, I headed up a team of 30 staff, & was responsible for all aspects of managing the designing of advertisements for all of North Wales Newspapers Ltd’s 14 newspapers. I relished this challenge as an opportunity to prove my managerial abilities. Now, as general manager at GLS coatings, I am grateful for this experience. GLS coatings’ polyurea coatings have a multitude of different applications including: industrial coatings, industrial flooring applications & to structural waterproofing, & my role as production manager left me properly prepared for my present role.As production manager, I supervised all aspects of Colour scanning, including: choice of hardware, choice of software, colour calibration, outputting to the press footprint & print calibrations.I was also responsible for the: copy-writing, colour, photographs & illustrations for every advertisement written for North Wales Newspapers Ltd. This has aided me in my role as general manager at GLS coatings; there is a certain amount of aesthetic choice which goes into the application of polyurea coatings in industrial coatings & industrial flooring applications. My role as production manager gave me experience of managing people involved in these creative processes. During my time as production manager, I supervised all aspects of the North Wales Newspapers Ltd’s Property Team, which included planning & use of property software.I also liaised at every level with clients & customers, both internal & external, to provide efficient multi-million-pound Ad-Make-Up service to North Wales Newspapers Ltd. One of my duties now, as general manager at GLS coatings, is to liaise with clients in a similar fashion. Show less After my appointment as the group picture editor at North Wales Newspapers Ltd, I was promoted to the Colour Manager. This provided me with a more in depth management experience. I now utilise this positive & effective management knowledge as the general manager for a team of polyurea coatings & industrial flooring applications experts. This is in my current role at GLS Coatings, the industrial coatings specialists.As North Wales Newspapers Ltd’s colour manager, I was tasked with many different roles. Some of which are listed below:- With the introduction of colour printing to North Wales Newspapers & the installation of a Goss Web-offset colour press, a post which used my expert knowledge of colour output was created.- Working closely with the press manager, I carried out a series of test-print trials, to ensure that North Wales Newspapers was printing the best colour possible. - I was responsible for every aspect of colour management, from calibrating the output RIPs, & the film & plate-processors to ensure colour accuracy- This role enabled me to fully develop my technical skills to ensure that clients were happy with origination & the finished printed colourWorking with the press manager helped me to develop my skills in becoming a general manager. Also, carrying out the test-print trials gave me great experience & knowledge of how these should be planned & carried out. I now utilise these skills by working with the MD of GLS Coatings, by offering a test of our very own polyurea coatings products. As the North Wales Newspapers’ group picture editor, I gained positive essential experience which enabled me to become GLS Coatings’ general manager. This is because I was tasked with managing a team of 13 staff photographers. I now utilise this management experience for managing a team of industrial flooring applications specialists.   Prior to my job as the General Manager at GLS Coatings, I was a county councillor at Denbighshire County Council.A county councillor must serve all members of the community equally & without discrimination in accordance with the county council's equality & diversity policy. Although being a county councillor may not seem particularly relevant to becoming General Manager of an industrial coatings & industrial flooring applications company like GLS Coatings, many of the skills I gained are relevant to my current position. I had to make myself accessible to constituents so that they could raise issues of importance. I make myself accessible to the polyurea coatings team in a similar way. As the General Manager it is my responsibility to ensure that all members of the GLS Coatings team feel comfortable approaching me to address any concerns they may have. My experience has enabled me to be an effective communicator, maintaining healthy working relationships & prompt service in the application of polyurea coatings & industrial coatings to industrial flooring applications.A county councilor works in partnership with communities & other agencies. Currently it is my duty, as the GLS Coatings General Manager, to constantly seek new ways to improve the company’s productivity, which means communicating effectively with other companies & clients.At GLS Coatings, I maintain a hands-on role in the managing & motivating of the company’s installation workforce. I have supreme confidence in our workforce at GLS Coatings.
