  I have been working as a Student Researcher in the Department of Endocrinology at the University of Florida’s College of Medicine under the supervision of Dr. Peter Stacpoole. I am primarily responsible for the Biochemistry division of a joint study with the Psychology department, exploring the potential effect of the drug Dichloroacetate on treating substance abuse in cocaine. I have become proficient in laboratory methods such as Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry and Western Blotting. The responsibility I have been given has allowed me to rapidly learn and become proficient in the variety of skills and methods required in clinical research. I have also been involved with my research group’s phase III pediatric clinical trial exploring the effects of dichloroacetate on inborn errors of metabolism.I frequently give presentations on my own research and other relevant topics. This has allowed me to hone my public speaking skills and keep up to date on new research developments in my field. Show less

  I had the pleasure of interning under Dr. Micah Johnson within his non-profit, Friendly Neighbors LLC. Out of 25 interns, I was elected by my peers to serve as the Chief Executive Officer of our emerging organization, Be a Friend Florida, which aims to combat child homelessness in the United States. Under my leadership, we worked together to grow this initiative, learning how to make an impactful, sustainable, and charitable organization. We worked on developing a curriculum for elementary school students regarding the issue of child homelessness as well as a research project exploring the root causes of child homelessness. Show less
