It takes issue with current approaches to rivalry in International Relations (IR) and Peace and Conflict Studies (P&CS) to advance an alternative, innovative, and interdisciplinary Mimetic Rivalry Framework (MRF) that draws on René Girard’s Mimetic Theory. In contrast to existing literature, the MRF argues for the distinctive nature of rivalry vis-à-vis other forms of conflict. The thesis then investigates the ethnic rivalry in Northern Ireland as it developed around two intractable issues: that of territory (1964-1998), and that of language (1998-2020), showing how its atypical intractability is a product of the extreme similarity of desires between Republicans and Loyalists, rather than of their difference. Lecturer in International Politics

As a seminar leader and tutor at the Exeter College Summer Programme – ECSP, I delivered 12 seminars on the subject of International Relations (introductory level), delivered six 1:1 tutorials for 20 students, and set and marked research essays. I also tutored 2 students in delivering a final research essay of 5,000 words long as part of their Independent Research Tutorials Projects, that is independent research studies on subjects chosen by the students themselves. One focused on transitional justice in Mexico, titled "Paths to Peace in Mexico through DDR and Transitional Justice". Another was a study of the substantive representation of women titled "How Quota Design Affects the Substantive Representation of Women: Evidence from Burundi and Rwanda". The Exeter College Summer Programme – ECSP – is a unique opportunity for level 4, 5, and 6 students, organised by the fourth oldest College in the University of Oxford. ECSP offers a wide range of cross-disciplinary lecture courses and a self-directed, one-to-one research tutorial. ECSP models its approach to teaching and learning on the tutorial system – personalised, small-group, discussion-based learning which is the basis of undergraduate teaching at the University of Oxford. This unprecedented professional experience enabled me to improve dramatically the offering of the university, creating opportunity for impact-based courses that moved closer together global society and academia applying innovative teaching practices to enable students to gain professional skills and experience and actively working towards changing the world they live in. – Course Leader of the Lev 4 Course in Sociology since January 2022, with fundamental responsibility in redesigning the course into a Project-Based Learning course, by involving ax external partner in the field of Global Politics and Diplomacy.Join the Politics and International relations Department enabled me to redesign and deliver a number of courses (International Relations: Theory and Practice, Security Studies, and Introduction to Sociology) targeted to undergraduate students. I always prioritised the task of updating the curriculum to tackle current global societal challenges like cybersecurity and climate change, working on improving students' leadership skills and cultural awareness. Pushing for the development of the department's research clusters, especially in the areas of global security and cyber geopolitics, has been a rewording and insightful experience, which has a number of benefits, including on how to guide students in their dissertation projects. Working on creating a vision for the research of a young university is an experience that only working in fast-growing and open academic environment can bring. The most rewarding aspect of this opportunity has been contributing to the renewal of the broad liberal arts educational mission for the contemporary world and shaping the humanities in transformative directions, especially with regard to technology and data, ethics, security and sustainability.
