The NC State Mental Health Ambassador Program is a group of undergraduate and graduate students with a passion for mental health awareness and wellness education. As an NC State MHA I assist in the development and presentation of various topics for classroom presentations, campus partners and community events. Our goal is to utilize the benefit of peer to peer education and support to continue to decrease stigma around mental health, help-seeking, and self-care. In addition to a significant time commitment, this program requires students to have strong communication and organizational skills, work well in a group, display maturity and empathy and a high level of responsibility. Show less As an Undergraduate Research Assistant (RA) I helped with various tasks including coding, statistical analysis through software programs, creating and distributing surveys, and file organization for the following projects:Youth Violence and Victimization: In this National Institute of Justice funded project, we are surveying over 900 6th and 9th graders to learn more about their experiences with and thinking about bullying, victimization, and ways to respond to bullying. STEM Teens: In this National Science Foundation and Wellcome Trust funded project, we are studying youth educators in informal science learning sites (museums, zoos, and aquariums) in the US and the UK. We are interested in the impact of participating in youth programming has on adolescents' interest, science identity, stereotypes, engagement, and academic trajectories. We are also interested in how youth educators impact the visitors they interact with. Moral Judgments in Early Childhood: This project is focused on understanding how young children think about moral transgressions, such as hurting someone. Do children consider how careful or careless a transgressor or victim was when a violation occurs? How do they attribute blame in these complex situations? Social-Emotional Outcomes of SKIP (a gross motor skill intervention) in Young Children: This research, in collaboration with Dr. Ali Brian at the University of South Carolina, examines whether an evidence-based gross motor skill intervention also leads to improvements in children's executive function and social competence and a reduction in stereotypes about who can and should have strong motor skills.
