I am a fire fighter by trade and the first project I had to retrieve from completely going down was the TPWS project. 850 done 1000 to complete in 7 months. People all over the industry said I was a suicide pilot for taking this on. But working with a man from India (Velumani Kandaswamy) we overcame every hurdle and completed to time (Xmas 2003). Then it was the Level Crossing Partnership another nightmare. But I got the right team in place and guess what success again. So basically if you are reading this the Sheffield Tram/Train project another impossible mission for me will be delivered as I am currently getting the right players into my team (by stealth). Signalling Renewals Requirements Engineer

I was the first SRRE in NR LNET and the best (remember that does not include my then boss)! My first task was to write the Signalling Works Instructions and processes.Inventing templates is one of my strengths and I think my written English is as good as any. I had to go on track and do recces with Maintenance Engineers to see what the state of the Infrastrucutre was in for specific project areas. From that I wrote up Asset Condition Assessment Reports and once options were agreed and ACAR signed off I wrote the project specifications. This was all done in line with the NR Business Plan for CP4/5. I stood in as SPE on many occasions and worked closely with many PM's.I also sat on SIRP and IRG and have been in the lofty heights of Melton Street but not on RIP. Show less

      Railway Signalling Design Manager

My day to day role involves managing projects through specific GRIP Stages. These days GRIP 4-5 is standard Signalling deliverables, but we do have heavy involvement with Testing in the main. When I am reviewing Signalling documents I like to cast my eye over the Testing Strategy in particular.Recently I have been reviewing log books and giving tips to less experienced Signalling staff on licensing, although I won't let them borrow mine! Only becauase a few went missing!Meetings, progress reporting, managing staff are core duties but meeting deadlines and delivery are the key to success. Leave no stone unturned, read your standards on a daily basis, concentrate not only on the technical solution but present the documentation immaculately. The Client always appreciates this.I practice what I preach and try my best to assign the right type of work to the right person with the correct level of experience and competence level.I like recruiting, CV sifting and interviewing that I feel comes naturally to some people.
