      Serving as Third Secretary at the Mission I was responsible for political monitoring and reporting on international affairs as they related to Uganda’s foreign policy. I represented the country in the Sixth Committee of the General Assembly and held the portfolio of Charge d’ Affaires in the absence of the Permanent Representative. I undertook duties associated with the administration of an overseas mission including preparations for official visits for government officials and delegates; consular work, negotiating and drafting documents for major international conferences as well as Mission contracts with service providers.       Working on a World Bank Project, I led the strategic communications and advocacy for the privatization and reform program in Uganda. My responsibilities included carrying out an awareness campaign through dissemination of information about privatization and enterprise reform to multiple stakeholders. I succeeded in branding the privatization program nationally and bringing an otherwise technical economic program into the public conscience through the mass media and theatrical dramatization.

      I was awarded a Fellowship for my work in democracy activism and used the time to research and write on US foreign policy on democracy promotion in emerging democracies of Africa. I interacted with policy makers on Capitol Hill and DC Think Tanks, collected data from relevant websites and compiled a report on democracy spending by the US government in Africa.

My writing projects included: A Human Rights Analysis of Uganda’s HIV and AIDS Prevention and Control Bill 2010; A Human Rights Analysis of the Public Order Management Bill 2011. I reviewed and simplified the Sexual Offences Bill and the Marriage and Divorce Bill- and completed a fact sheet on the Marriage and Divorce Bill. Show less

      I work with the United Nations to deliver a public information support package that enhances strategic communications for the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia (UNSOM.) I lead a team of professional, consultant and contractor staff that uses a unique model of deploying outsourced resources in a non-permissive conflict environment to deliver services. I am responsible for administering comprehensive communication strategies to execute multiple, complex campaigns in support of AU and UN mandates in Somalia; and work with senior level officials to manage often overlapping priorities. Relationship building with stakeholders includes managing disputes and building cooperation among partners. I use consultative processes and invite clients to participate in decision making and this has improved both efficiency and accountability. Show less My responsibilities included strategic communication planning and implementation in an area that extended to Kenya (Nairobi and Dadaab,) Somalia (South Central Somalia, Puntland and Somaliland) with a broad range of communications projects, aligned to the Mission's mandate. As Deputy Chief I provided oversight, monitoring and evaluation of outsourced public information services and provided quality assurance and compliance of public information outputs in line with the missions messaging. My team successfully implemented an intensive communication project for the end of the political transition in Somalia. Show less
