The work is innovative, based on a rigorous application of research methods in qualitative socio-legal studies, and advances knowledge within that field generally, and more specifically in relation to legal education, as well as the teaching of African customary law. The Ph.D. is the obvious product of a very large volume of work and thinking and clearly makes various forms of original contribution to the field. The potential for the thesis to have practical impacts is also significant. We can see the insights in this work being talked about and drawn upon for many years to come. The need for and value of this sort of work is also obvious."The Hamlyn Trust supports legal education principally through prestigious annual lectures. The Wes Pue Prize for Legal Education is in honor of Professor Wes Pue, a much-loved and highly respected Canadian Scholar whose published work is mainly in legal history and legal education. The sponsors are Professors Carole Silver (Northwestern University), Neta Ziv (Tel Aviv University), Hilary Sommerlad (University of Leeds), Richard Moorhead (Exeter University), Eyal Katvan (Peres Academic Center) and Professor Emeritus Avrom Sherr.
