As a Construction Engineer, I was responsible for constructing medium-voltage distribution substations (ranging from 100 kVA to 1 MVA) and low-voltage pole lines in the North Western Province of Sri Lanka. My role involved designing, planning, and overseeing construction works, which were executed through registered contractors. Additionally, I managed electricity line shifting projects to accommodate road widening initiatives. Key Responsibilities:• Designing high voltage (33 kV & 11 kV) and low-voltage distribution power lines and substation in compliance with Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) construction standards.• Ensuring all construction works are carried out according to CEB's distribution construction standards.• Preparing power interruption schedules to minimize labor idling and maximize resource utilization.• Supervising 14 number of contractors to ensure strict adherence to safety rules while performing duties.• Maintaining and updating records on the progress of construction projects.• Conducting commissioning tests as per CEB standards for completed projects during handover.• Managing rural electrification projects to achieve 100% electrification in the North Western Province. Show less As a Control Center Engineer, I was responsible for developing safety protocols and documentation procedures for medium-voltage (MV) network operations, ensuring safe and efficient operations through the SCADA system. These efforts contributed to enhancing the reliability of the North Western Province (NWP) MV network. Additionally, I spearheaded further advancements in the SCADA system and power system automation during my tenure.Key Responsibilities:• Maintaining the real-time MV network in an optimal configuration while supervising and monitoring it via the SCADA system.• Ensuring the safe and efficient operation of the MV network through the SCADA system in compliance with CEB procedures and guidelines.• Managed power outage situations by preparing alternative feeding arrangements and coordinating with the National Grid, Transmission branch, Operational & Maintenance teams, and the National System Control Centre.• Enhancing supply reliability through protection coordination and the installation of line equipment such as auto reclosers, load break switches (LBS), fault indicators.• Produced and analyzed KPI reports using MS Excel, providing recommendations for improving operational performance and reducing outages• Calculated reliability indexes and generated daily operational reports for management, summarizing key performance data.• Carrying developments of SCADA system for optimizing the network operations. I managed a complex power distribution network in the Chilaw area of Sri Lanka, where over 75% of the infrastructure was located along the coastal belt. These sections were highly exposed to marine pollution, including salt deposition and corrosion, which posed significant challenges to system reliability and asset longevity. Key Responsibilities:• Preparing and planning proposals to improve efficiency of the distribution network, including transformer augmentation, installation of Load Break Switches, voltage regulators, and capacitor banks.• Maintaining proper safety clearances for system assets and conducting regular vegetation removal programs.• Planning and executing routine maintenance work to enhance supply reliability and prevent costly equipment failures and promptly maintaining the plant and equipment register.• Conducting relevant tests as per relevant standards before commissioning renewable energy additions to the low-voltage system.• Carrying out necessary repairs and replacements for electrical plants and equipment, up to and including the 33kV level, within the area.• Ensuring the availability of standard stock materials to facilitate service connections and maintenance work.• Planning supply interruptions in advance, minimizing impact on affected consumers.• Managing systems for service connections and revenue collection from ordinary and heavy supply customers.• Ensuring prompt execution of disconnections and reconnections for non-payment in compliance with established procedures.• Maintaining a safe, accident-free work environment.• Preparing annual plans, including connection, maintenance, vehicle, building, and budget plans Show less As a Maintenance Engineer in the Distribution Maintenance Unit, I was responsible for carrying out the maintenance and rehabilitation works of medium-voltage (MV) pole line networks across the North Western Province. This included managing a total MV line length of 4,065 km, ensuring the optimal performance of 318 Load Break Switches /Air Brake Switches, as well as maintaining 21 gantries. Key Responsibilities:• Preparing the annual MV distribution maintenance plan, including preventive and routine maintenance works based on statistical data of power failures.• Ensuring all maintenance estimates comply with CEB standards and work norms, and verifying that all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with established standards and procedures.• Coordinating with the commercial unit to arrange required materials for executing maintenance jobs.• Planning all necessary resource requirements, including workforce, vehicles, tools, and equipment.• Responding to and restoring major medium-voltage breakdowns within the province as needed.• Ensuring strict adherence to safety rules, regulations, and procedures to protect employees, equipment, and third parties during maintenance activities.• Conducting training for subordinates, skilled technicians, and other staff members within the unit.• Designing and constructing 33kV medium-voltage aerial bundled cable (ABC) lines.
