  Responsible for the regulation of the Radiactive Substances Act 93 for non-nuclear sites with a specific focus on the onshore and offshore oil and gas industry. Specific responsibilities include: - Lead inspector for a number of onshore and offshore sites - Processing applications for Registrations and Authorisations under RSA 93 - Authorising operators for the keeping and use of radioactive material and accumulation and disposal of radioactive waste - Inspecting operators to ensure compliance under RSA 93 (including onshore and offshore sites) - Providing advice and guidance to operators regarding their compliance with RSA 93, with a focus on the offshore industry - Representing SEPA at Oil & Gas UK's radiological issues group Show less In this role I was heavily involved with the development of the UK Government's strategy for the management of waste containing naturally occuring radioactive material (NORM). I managed the data collection phase of the project in order to gain a clearer picture of how NORM waste is managed in the UK. This involved direct engagement with NORM waste producing industries (eg. oil and gas, steel manufacturing, china clay), NORM waste mangegment providers (eg. landfills, incinerators and descalers) and industry trade bodies (Oil and Gas UK, UKOOG). I was SEPA's technical secretary for the Nuclear Industry Liaison Group. In this role I liaised direct with regulators and industry or matters relating to the nuclear industry and provided industry with a update relevant on work being undertaken by SEPA. Show less
