Fellow, Postbaccalaureate Intramural Research Training Award (POSTBAC IRTA) Program

As a recipient/participant of the POSTBAC IRTA Program, I initiated an independent research project that explored health education materials that will allow those affected by sickle cell disease and trait to understand more fully their risk, factors associated with health complications, and guidance on how to start conversations about risk and disease with their family members by both interviewing those affected by sickle cell about their information seeking behavior and evaluating the usability of those materials that are currently available on the internet. This effort required a collaboration with a 12-person research team to review and plan the design and implementation of study protocols submitted to the local IRB. From this, we were able to publish multiple reports and briefs regionally. Show less
