  I am a one person program and the first child life specialist at St. Mary's Hospital. I meet the psychosocial needs of children in all departments including: Ambulatory Surgery, Emergency Department, Radiology, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatrics, and consults to outpatient clinics and to children of adult patients. As an integral member of the pediatric healthcare team, my duties include but are not limited to: providing support and education for patients and families in the healthcare setting, developing developmentally-centered resources, utilizing play with children as a method for restoration, mastery, and coping, and collaborating with providers to develop a healthcare coping program.I provide medical staff with training and information on child development, coping, family systems, stress management and reduction. I also provide grief and bereavement services to children of adult patients, siblings of, and child patients.As a certified child passenger safety technician, I also provide carseat safety consults and education to pediatric and NICU patient families.
