The single most important function of this position is to identify roadblocks that are preventing execution of our budget plans and then attempting to cure those same road blocks. In no particular order some of these roadblocks can be:• Monetary - budgets may need “real-time “adjustments or to be reallocated• Competitive - deal terms may need adjusting to suit a particular company or lease holder • Opportunity exposure - new areas or horizons need to be evaluated • Personnel – either too few, or wrong skill set, or poor performance issues, or poor communication is occurring• Regulatory – showing a willingness to accommodate mitigation requests can cure many issues• Technical –not efficiently utilizing the current world of modern day tools• Indecisiveness – one needs to make a decision to move projects forward even when the path is not entirely clearI do not micromanage, I get the best people I can, and engage them in intelligent discussions, but I generally defer to them if their solution has merit. My technical background is geological, with good overall Rockies exposure that is strongest in Utah and Colorado (plus midcontinent experience in the Anadarko basin). I have a solid appreciation for economic evaluation runs both single well and project based, but believe many projects are killed prematurely on the front end because faulty economic assumptions were used. Many times you need to drill the well and see if it will achieve your input assumptions rather than letting the assumption dictate whether a project should be pursued. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, there should be a very strong relationship with the land department. They are the initial voice of the company when trying to enter new areas. The land department needs to be clear on corporate intentions and desires for each project. Show less
