      Network Engineer Intern

Throughout my time with Kent School District, my responsibilities grew exponentially as the staff numbers started to decrease within the department. Maintaining the network to allow for reliable access for all who use it, responding to helpdesk requests dealing with network related issues like phones, connection issues with laptops and desktops, and upgrading piece of technology so that the network stays secure and consistent. My first day, I was tossed into a project that had been going for two weeks. Everyone had a part and a routine that worked well. This forced me to teach myself everything required for the project while working on it. The project was to go through all of the wiring closets and boxes for the entire district and clean, maintain and replace anything broken or old. This included changing out switches and programming the new ones. In my last month, I was put in charge of a full wireless upgrade for a middle school. I was responsible for taking inventory of the new access points and gigabit modules, installing the modules on the access points, programming them, and then replacing the old access points as well as adding new locations for a denser area. There were more than two hundred access points that were replaced and added. This project ran all the way up to the end of my internship and then was passed on to a new engineer. I was able to complete eighty percent of the project. Show less

      IT Technician

KiBe School District was a place of self-taught learning from the very beginning. With the department consisting of only one person and the recent destruction of their main server room, I decided to volunteer my time and hope to alleviate some of the stress and work load. This consisted of rebuilding salvageable servers, setup new servers, and check and fix any problems with functional pieces of equipment like the wireless servers and the web filter. Was also in charge of fixing all problems throughout the district while the Director was working in the server closet. Almost two months as a volunteer, the Director was pleased with my work and offered me a full-time position as a technician. At the beginning of September of 2014, the Director left and I replaced him temporarily for the month until the new Director was hired. It was a challenge to run the department, especially with two high school students working part-time. But my schooling in administrative management prepared me well enough to manage my time and theirs to get the job done and have the transition seamless.Even with the new Director, I was still under very little supervision. This allowed me to work freely and learn at a pace that worked best for me and allowed for me to complete tasks that were critical to the network’s integrity on a regular basis. Show less
