    • Barnardo's

      Feb 2018 - now
      Store Manager

I am passionate about Barnardo's values and in February 2018 I joined the organisation as a Charity Store Manager.- The store is located near Cardiff Metropolitan University's Hall of Residence and thus I have successfully endeavoured to reach out to the young student population by re-merchandising the store to have a vibrant, youthful welcoming feel. - I champion young and/or vunerable people joining the team especially those who have a connection with the charity and recently I received a special thank you from Barnardo's Retail Director as a career of one of my young volunteers had been so pleased with the experiences the young women in her care had gained within the store that she had penned a letter of thanks to Barnardo's Head Office.- Actively recruited volunteers via indeed.com, contacting local radio stations, visiting student unions, visiting local churches, working with probation officers, creating posters and asking local businesses to place on notice boards as well as running 'volunteer recruitment events' in store.- Increased volunteer weekly hours per week from 15 to 120 in 6 months- Increased volunteer numbers from 3 to 15 active volunteers in 8 months- Paramount to my success in increasing volunteer hours is that I make a particular effort to get to know each and every one of my volunteers individually.- I have been successful in working with volunteers on community service for instance I have one long standing volunteer who originally started with me on a 100 hours of community service basis. However since commencing her 100 hours she has continued to volunteer every Saturday in store as she felt that her time within the store helped her overcome her previous problems.- I regularly run events to increase sales such as bake sales, flash sales and raffles. - Current donated and 'new goods' sales this year on steady increase Show less
