      I began at the Water Corporation as an OSH Vacation Student in 2013 and continued to provide OSH assistance throughout my university studies. I am currently employed full time as a Safety Officer with the company. I provide support and guidance to our regional team to ensure safety is at the paramount of our daily operations. I work hard on ensuring our safety culture is positive and proactive. Communication, time management and team working skills are vital to this role. My duties include:- Incident Investigations (ICAM Trained) - Compile and analyse statistical OSH data to identify trends and possible improvements within the company- Review all incidents and hazards raised in the South West Region (SWR) within the corporations database (Sentinel) to ensure the consistency and standard of these issues are investigated and actioned to a high level- Assist the facilitation and coaching of staff on technical aspects of work practices and procedures to support work outcomes- Assist in coaching supervisors and other personnel on their OSH responsibilities and accountabilities relating to their roles, and support them to fulfil those accountabilities - Undertake site inspections/audits focusing on areas including but not limited to Confined Spaces, Falls from Heights, Excavations, Dangerous Goods, Isolations, Driving, Mobile Plant, Lifting Operations and Electrical Safety.- Review and provide feedback on Safe Job Planning/ Risk Assessments- Maintain and modify as accordingly all OSH registers within the SWR and distribute information accordingly to senior management- Assist with assuring equipment is compliant with requirements and ensure required testing and inspections are undertaken and required documentation and information records are kept.- Perform regional OSH administration tasks including record management for injury management & workers compensation - Organise and facilitate Regional Occupational Health and Safety Committee (ROSHC) meetings Show less I completed a project at the Water Corporation in regards to ‘Leader Lead Safety’. This project gave me a great insight into the barriers line management face when completing certain safety obligations. The outcome of the project provided methods of assisting team leaders and supervisors with tools, training and assistance in overcoming barriers which prevented them from reaching workplace safety observations. This project required me to develop and facilitate a questionnaire, conduct interviews, collate and analyse the results and to then provide the company with possible strategies to eliminate the identified barriers.       This position was a great insight into the oil and gas industry and also an excellent opportunity to implement the knowledge and skills acquired during my university studies into a high risk workplace. I gained experience in:- Incident investigations with a strong focus on 'Lessons Learnt'- Compliance inspections (including CSE, falls from heights/scaffolding, ergonomics, mobile plant, excavations)- Occupational Hygiene experience including using air monitoring equipment to take samples and analyse the results and assisting with report writing- Dangerous goods and hazardous substances audits including participating in the introduction of new software regarding approvals of these substances- I was a member of the Emergency Response Team which conducted monthly exercises to ensure the Refinery was prepared and equipped for all emergencies at the plant- Gained experience in contractor management and liaising with HSE Advisors from multiple contractors to ensure the Refinery had a consistent and positive approach to safety- Provided support and advice to all field workers on safe work practises- Implemented a new system of weekly communications which aimed to develop conversation of hazards that poses risk to Refinery workers and discussed control measures.I was able to refine my Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Office skills during my vacation program. I was also able to develop my communication and team working skills from liaising with field workers to senior management.       This short term contract as a Safety Advisor at the Bunbury Meat Centre involved in an internal audit of the company and my role was focused around ensuring all gaps in safety processes, procedures, equipment and operations were closed before an external party carried out an audit.
