  As part of a work experience and travel program, Sam moved to New York City in 2011. He worked primarily at the Australian Bar & Hotel, which was located in the middle of Midtown, Manhattan. A local hotspot for ex-patriots and locals alike, this bar was a packed venue and often a major attraction for large functions and groups of people. This experience allowed him to engage with a different culture and improve on service skills and customer relations in a manner not commonly seen inside Australia. Show less

  After moving back to Australia in 2012, Sam found work in the luxury cinema lounge, Goldclass. Here Sam worked as a cook, waiter, bartender and supervisor before being promoted to venue manager. As the venue manager he was responsible for:+ Ordering and maintaining adequate stock levels; + Managing staff ranging from 8 to 20 employees at a time;+ Menu design and liaison with reps from food and beverage companies; + Profit and loss statements; and+ Maintaining OH&S policies, government health standards and employee satisfaction.
