Commissions are quasi-autonomous advocacy units within the ASUC that serve as the delegated official ASUC spokespersons for the respective subject matters. They are charged with promoting the general welfare of the student body by accomplishing substantive work (e.g. changing campus policies) rather than serving just as liaisons to other organizations. In this case, the Mental Health Commission serves to address the needs of the undergraduate population in regards to mental health. The Multicultural Fund provides monetary support to events introducing the campus to a culture. The program provides opportunities for student groups to hold unique and innovative events to increase campus awareness of multicultural issues. The objective of the program is to build tolerance and appreciation for diversity by broadening students’ perspectives. Funding is allocated to student groups that organize and widely advertise cultural events.
