      May 2023 - Aug 2023
Nsf research experience for undergraduates internship

I was a part of Dr. Ben Parker’s lab at the University of Tennessee researching the ecology and evolution of animal-microbe interactions using a model insect, the pea aphid, that is host to a community of bacterial, fungal, and viral symbionts that are at times beneficial or harmful to their hosts.I was given my own project where I researched how a specific bacterial symbiont that was known to interact with the hosts immune genes, made the host more susceptible to infection. At the conclusion of my internship, I presented all my findings at the university's microbiology departmental retreat. Show less

      Mar 2024 - now
Undergraduate research assistant- the abil lab

Dr. Zhanar Abil is currently researching the general processes of life by engineering synthetic life from non living components. To do this, we will implement cell-free gene expression systems, self-replicating gene circuits and networks, and in vitro evolution in biomimetic compartments.Knowledge gained from building synthetic life has the potential to power up numerous advancements in biotechnological and biomedical applications, such as in manufacturing pipelines for synthetic materials and biofuels, new vaccination strategies and drug delivery methods. • Sarepta therapeutics

      May 2024 - now
      Summer research intern

In the Histology and Morphometrics department at Sarepta, my role involves handling animal tissue samples that have undergone RNA or gene treatments, as part of our research efforts targeting Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and Limb-girdle muscular dystrophy (LGMD). I'm responsible for preparing and processing these samples for histology and morphometric studies, delving into the intricate structures and characteristics of cells and tissues. Through this experience, I gain valuable insights into the underlying mechanisms of muscle function and pathology. Additionally, I receive training in muscle/nerve testing using various microscopes and learn sophisticated image analysis methods adhering to GCP/GLP protocols. Show less
