Experience

United states marine corps
Jan 2010 - May 2015In 2014, plans were made to end combat operations in Afghanistan. In accordance with that decision, supporting military infrastructure across Helmand Province which had been built up over the previous decade was removed or turned over to the Afghan government. My unit was responsible for flying intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions in support of ground operations and coalition security. As the Detachment Logistics Officer, I was responsible for planning and executing the retrograde of my unit's personnel and equipment while maintaining the same level of logistics support to our ISR operations. As other military ISR capabilities were turned off and retrograded from the theater, the support we provided became more critical. We ceased operations at one satellite location in Helmand Province while pushing that capability to a larger airfield at Kandahar. Support was then provided to Helmand from Kandahar while operations at our main operating site in Helmand were wound down in preparation for handover of the base to the Afghan National Army. My staff section of six Marines kept the generators running which powered our buildings and the ground control stations for the aircraft and also managed/executed all logistics support requests. The major changes occurring to our force laydown, and the constant pressure to do the same with less as personnel and equipment were retrograded, required painstakingly meticulous planning. Throughout the deployment, there were zero instances of reduced or missed logistics support to our primary mission of putting aircraft in the sky to provide overwatch for protection of our fellow servicemembers, allies, and Afghan partners. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Icd-4O1q2Jo Show less As the Squadron Logistics Officer for Marine Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Squadron 3, I led a section of approximately 30 operators, mechanics, and specialists. Marine Corps UAV squadrons are unique in that they are aviation units, but have a large amount of ground equipment which supports their flight operations. In addition to performing the normal logistics functions, we were also responsible for maintaining and operating a large amount of vehicles and generators. The below bullets cover all of my different areas of responsibility.-embarkation of equipment and personnel-ordnance maintenance, storage, and accountability-motor transport maintenance and operations-utilities maintenance and operations-maintenance management programs -ammunition procurement, storage, and accountability-food service operations-facilities maintenance-procurement and contracting-budget development and management-warehouse operationsTwo large projects I oversaw while at VMU-3 were the cutover to a new Oracle-based enterprise resource planning system and planning the relocation of the unit from California to Hawaii. Show less I deployed to Afghanistan as the Logistics Officer for 1st Combat Engineer Battalion. Our area of operations covered the 40,000 square miles of Helmand and Nimroz provinces where we were responsible for enhancing mobility, counter-mobility, and survivability. The main threat to mobility and life at the time was the improvised explosive device, and out unit had the mission to keep the main supply routes clear of this threat. As a member of the unit’s primary staff, I led all logistics planning for operations. Additionally, I played an oversight role in supervising the receipt, submission to supporting agencies, and ongoing monitoring of all air and ground movement requests. My responsibilities also extended to maintaining the equipment list for follow-on Combat Engineer Battalion deployments, requiring foresight and long-term planning. In coordination with our higher headquarters, I registered requirements for additional recovery, heavy haul, and route clearance equipment to bolster our unit's capabilities. I also oversaw the submission of an urgent needs statement for an 'off road capable' heavy equipment trailer, advocating for a solution to our unit's unique equipment requirements.I was entrusted with managing the retrograde and redeployment line of operation in accordance with a directed surge recovery of personnel and equipment. This involved creating a framework for retrograding equipment, setting up an internal retrograde cell, and supervising the organization of our equipment lot. Finally, I managed the redeployment of the battalion from Afghanistan, involving numerous flights over a 6-month period, a process requiring meticulous oversight. Through it all, my focus remained on supporting our operational effectiveness and maintaining the highest level of readiness. Show less The job of a Logistics Officer in most Marine Corps units can either be narrowly focused on a specific role requiring specialization or broadly cover a wider range of roles. My experience has been the latter. At 1st CEB, I started off working in maintenance management, which included collateral responsibilities in the areas of hazardous materials and ground safety. -oversee functioning of maintenance programs -ensure adherence to procedures and accurate reporting of equipment readiness -coordinate transition of the enterprise supply and maintenance software system -work with stakeholders in addressing equipment readiness concerns-ensure proper storage and disposal of HAZMAT in accordance with with regulations -administer unit Occupational Safety and Health programs -conduct safety inspections and oversee hazard identification and control implementationOther later areas of focus included ordnance, ammunition, facilities, embarkation, and food service. -manage the armory and ordnance maintenance personnel-ensure proper security, storage, and accountability of weapons and ammunition-track ammunition allocations and expenditures -manage the barracks-manage the food service staff and equipment -coordinate facilities maintenance and renovation -area clean-up/beautification-provide long-term planning input to area development plans-coordinate the movement of personnel, supplies, and equipmentA combat engineer battalion is a large, equipment-heavy organization with a varied capability set that is in high demand in time of conflict. In my role, I spearheaded the planning, coordination, and supervision of all battalion logistics functions. This role required me to closely advise the commander on logistics support capabilities and promptly respond to external support requests by evaluating our unit's personnel and equipment. Throughout my tenure, my focus remained on ensuring optimal performance, safety, and effectiveness in all operations. Show less

Jun 2015 - Aug 2015Global logistics internAs a Global Logistics Intern at Albemarle Corporation, I made contributions to improving the firm's logistics operations. A core responsibility involved collaborating with cross-functional teams to rectify issues identified from an internal audit. I contributed to the development and refinement of corporate policies, processes, and procedures, focusing on formalizing relationships with our third-party logistics providers. In addition, I honed my analytical skills by assisting in the data analysis required for the execution of an ocean freight tender process. My role in analyzing this data supported the optimization of shipping strategies, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and facilitating informed decision-making. Moreover, I supported the handling of duty drawback claims from U.S. Customs for imported raw materials, which involved analyzing data to accurately calculate and process claims. My role at Albemarle Corporation offered me extensive exposure to various aspects of global logistics, enhancing my problem-solving skills and solidifying my practical understanding of logistics management in a global corporate environment. U.s. marine corps reserve
Jun 2016 - Aug 2016Assistant operations officerWhen I left Active Duty service in 2015, I transitioned into the Marine Corps Reserves. The first unit I joined as a reservist was the Marine for Life detachment. Our mission was to connect transitioning Marines and their family members to education resources, employment opportunities, and other Veterans services that could aid in their career and life goals outside of military service. As a recently transitioned servicemember, I felt I had relevant knowledge and experience to pass along to those newly facing the same challenges. While in graduate school at MIT, I worked to establish connections and build a network throughout the greater New England region with Marine and veteran-friendly resources and connect transitioning servicemembers to this network. Upon graduation from MIT, I was offered to work full-time for the summer at the Marine for Life headquarters as their Assistant Operations Officer while waiting for my follow-on job with ABB to begin. In this role, I helped track and coordinate the activities of our 75 representatives across the United States. I also planned our 2-week annual training in Quantico, where we gathered to met with leaders from veteran service organizations, share best practices, and brainstorm ways to better serve our fellow servicemembers.
