      Multicultural Intern

As a multicultural intern at the Brooklyn Public Library, I assisted in supporting the Library's mission of creating a space where the people of Brooklyn have free and open access to information for education, recreation, and reference. By answering reference questions from all age groups, creating eye-catching display boards and book displays that encouraged reading and learning, and organizing and monitoring public programs, I encouraged patrons to visit and explore the library. I also provided technical help to patrons on public computers and assisted with book shelving and organizing. Show less

    • University of New Haven

      Aug 2013 - May 2016

As Academic Peer Mentor, I had the unique opportunity to be on the Campus Life side of higher ed as well as the Academic side. I served as academic support for a first/second-year residence hall comprised of 200 students, teaching them how to develop skills on studying, time management, and note-taking. I facilitated weekly open-door hour sessions to counsel students on personal/academic issues and collaborated with on and off-campus organizations for monthly events. I was able to develop a Sophomore Year Experience course to empower participants to enhance their academic and professional goals, community citizenship, engagement with faculty, and wellness and challenge the "Sophomore Slump". Lastly, I worked with a cohort of students from Saudi Arabia as they transitioned to American college life. Show less A promotion from the Success Captain role, as a Team Leader, I oversaw 4-8 Success Captains guiding their own group of first-year students through their transition to college. I continued to teach the foundations of success (First-Year Experience) course and created and conducted multiple monthly programs and activities to bring awareness to the program. In this role, I worked on one of my first hiring committees as a staff member, not a student. I also had the opportunity to create a University initiative called Charged Up, an orientation program for participants to get to know the office, university, and each other prior to the start of the academic year. Campus Compact AmeriCorps VISTA

Served as an AmeriCorps VISTA through Connecticut Campus Compact at Connecticut College. Through this opportunity, I coordinated Project Teach & Learn in New London Public Schools, 3 grant-funded initiatives, that encourage participation in enrichment activities for K-12 students. I recruited and advised Connecticut College students about community engagement opportunities and persuaded them to join the program. I also created and sustained over 50 community partnerships in the Greater New London area as well as analyzed and assessed the success of each program for future grants and funding. Show less

    • The George Washington University

      Jan 2018 - Oct 2019

At the Nashman Center, I recruited, onboarded, and managed 150 volunteers across 5 partner organizations. A part of onboarding was developing and leading trainings to prepare participants for various job scenarios. I also managed the collection of partner and volunteer data to create a participant directory and tracked participant data and stakeholder engagement to evaluate program performance. I coached 15-20 students on academic probation; identifying problems, connecting resources, and teaching students the skills to hold themselves accountable while supporting their goals. With difficult cases, I worked collaboratively with advisors on matters pertaining to students in the assigned caseload and tracked student contact to ensure that timely, consistent communication was maintained.
