Mar 2006 - nowENETA est 10/03/2006As Ceo, I had to be good at making decisions, and that requires a radical open mind, to have the ability to analyze different points of view without letting my ego get in the way. It's never acceptable to get upset if the 'meritocracy of ideas' doesn't produce the decision I personally wanted. Here are some of the basic characteristics, core competencies, and responsibilities I have. 1. Flexibility. there is no such thing as a single best or fixed type of leadership. This changes according to the requirements of the group or organization.2. Honesty which is particularly important to be an effective leader. 3. Changes according to the situation. The leadership style dependent on the situation at hand and the development level of the individuals involved. 4. Encourages initiative. Employees are rewarded for coming up with innovative ideas, and are encouraged to do what it takes to improve the way things are done. 5. Value driven decision-making. All decisions are first checked to ensure that they are in accordance with the overall organizational values. 6. Delegating. When dealing with a highly matured and capable team, I was gradually reducing my supervision and involvement in the daily activities of team members, except discussing the tasks and deciding on the goals to be achieved. Team members have complete freedom on how they want to accomplish these goals.7. Integrity. I am not changing my approach merely to take advantage of the situation. 8. Leadership by example. I am not just about talking the talk, but walking the walk. The high expectations that I have of employees are also applicable on the individual level. 9. Clear vision. I have a clear vision of where the team is going in order to identify and adopt the most effective behaviors and strategies to get to the goal.10. Humility. My painful mistakes shifted me from "I know I'm right" to "How do I know I'm right?" They gave me the humility I needed to balance my audacity. Show less
