  As a member of the West Midlands Regional Consortium I initiated the first regional contract in the police service for photographic consumables, scenes of crime consumables and the collection and destruction of confidential waste, achieving savings across the region.I tendered and contract managed the issue of body armour to all 1,100 police officers across the county.I managed the Force’s procurement of goods and services in accordance with the National Police and Force Procurement strategy, while managing a staff of six: two buyers, two stores personnel and two print operatives Show less Prior to the introduction of “best value” I collaborated with Northampton Borough Council and we both tendered for recruitment advertising, temporary staff agency work and vehicle hire, achieving considerable savings. I contract managed solutions for reprographic and mailroom equipment, a print services framework and several IT projects, covering mobile telephony, police wireless infrastructures ,and IT support services.I initiated and implemented a office furniture refurbishment project throughout the force (eight stations and Force Headquarters) over a period of three years I chaired the national police environment working group, overseeing a strategic approach to waste stream management.   My role was to act as the Council’s lead on all strategic and operational procurement activity until the post was filled which took eighteen months. On the back of a supplier spend analysis I have rejuvenated the central procurement function which was under-achieving, by implementing a category management initiative, establishing a contracts register, the setting up of a five year procurement tender plan and the introduction of a new procurement strategy. Working closely with internal stakeholders including Housing, IT, HR, Planning, FM, Leisure, Fleet and Waste Management, individually and in collaboration, the council is now realising real benefits in terms of savings and efficiencies through tenders and quotations and opening up market focussed opportunities not just current but for the future.
