      Bachelor's degree medical biology 7.3

My Bachelor Medical Biology was mainly focused on the field of neurobiology. I wrote my Bachelor Thesis about 'Toll-like receptors in Alzheimer's Disease'. My supervisor was prof. T. Celikel. Grade: 8/10. My Bachelor internship thesis was about 'Footswitch data in relation to Freezing of Gait by Parkinson Disease patients'. During this internship I've worked with ELAN software and with Matlab. My supervisor was prof. dr. R.J.A. van Wezel. Grade: 8/10.

      Bachelor research internship

Internship completed succesfully (graded 8 out of 10). Department Biophysics at Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour.Title: 'Footswitch data in relation to Freezing of Gait by Parkinson Disease patients'. In this internship it was investigated whether footswitch equipment can be used to predict and/or detect a FoG episode in PD patients. Former research indicated that the step length just upon freezing differs from normal walking. Also, the forces in the feet during a FoG episode are much lower than during walking. Therefore, footswitch equipment could be used to predict and detect FoG, which would be helpful to improve the treatment options and reduce FoG in PD patients. It was found that there was an increase in the footswitch output five seconds before the FoG episode occurred. This shows that footswitch equipment could be used as a predicting mechanism for a FoG episode. Supervisor: prof. dr. R.J.A. van Wezel Show less

Internship completed succesfully (graded 8 out of 10)Department of Medical Imaging and Anatomy, RadboudumcBariatric surgery (BARS) is associated with significant weight loss and improved brain function and structure. My internship focused on examining the effect of weight loss on brain function and structure 2 years after BARS using data of the BARICO study. The BARICO study (Bariatric surgery Rijnstate and Radboudumc neuroImaging and Cognition in Obesity) aims to investigate the long-term effect of weight loss on brain function and structure after BARS and is still an ongoing study. I was a student assistant at the research group Translational Genomics of Neurodevelopmental Disorders. Title: Predictors for future falls in people with Parkinson’s DiseaseMy supervisor was dr. J. H. Nonnekes at the Revalidationcentre of Radboudumc. This literature thesis aimed to review predictive factors for fall risk in people with Parkinson's Disease and a recommendation was made based on the identified risk factors for useful tools in the clinician. In this internship I investigated whether an EEG profile with functional excitation and inhibition (fE/I) and relative powers could be found based on the severity of NDDs, as measured with the age of diagnosis.
