      Feb 2004 - Oct 2009
      Postdoctoral research fellow

Postgraduate research fellowship aimed at the study of protein adsorption and mineralisation at surfaces of natural polymers to be used for biomedical applications. Work was done within the 3B´s Research Group, first in Gualtar, the last two years in Avepark. The focus was on protein adsorption and mineralisation on the surfaces of novel natural origin polymers to be used as tissue engineering scaffolds. The research had a fundamental character.• I used fluorescence and quartz crystal microbalance to study protein adsorption, competitive binding and multi-layer formation.• I introduced ellipsometry in the group, as a tool to study organic films.• I analysed surface roughness of biopolymers and the size of particles with Atomic Force Microscopy.• I wrote SOPs for the use of the above equipment.• I applied for funding for national and EU agencies. Winning proposal: ProteoLight (PT: FCT). • I wrote and gained two postdoc grants from FCT ( SFRH/ BPD/ 39331/ 2007 & SFRH/ BPD/ 17584/ 2004)• I took part in the initial evaluation and writing the first draft business plan for how to start a company based on the tissue engineering concepts that emerge from the science of this group (later launched as Stemmatters). Rtd coordinator

Coordinator of the RTD group at INOVA+ with focus on applied research and product concept development in the area of ICT for the European societal challenge of health, demographic change and wellbeing. We are well aware that input from users, both elderly and caregivers, is vital in developing ICT solutions that give support for active and healthy ageing with a focus on maintaining well-being, i.e. much more than just treating singular events, in approaches to integrated care. We are thus convinced that ICT solutions could bring improvements to the interactions between patients and health care professional.• I wrote grant proposals mostly as part of a consortium. Winning proposals included Nortexcel2020 (H2020) and WorkinTeam (PT QREN).• I was one of the work package leaders in the national project AAL4ALL with 30 partners. • I lead a small group of developers, mainly programmers. • I was part of the process to introduce quality management for handling of knowledge according to Portuguese standard: NP 4457. We obtained and kept on being certified during my time.• I oversaw the research and innovation portfolio, nurtured internal ideas, challenges and technology watch processes. Show less
