Sept 2007 - Mar 2017Created teen volunteer programs at Chandler Regional and Mercy Gilbert Medical Centers (members of Dignity Health) which offers volunteer opportunities and teaches leadership skills. Recently copyrighted our program and are selling to other nonprofits who are interested in investing in our future students and preparing them for real life work experience. Program overview was presented at 2014 national conference on volunteering in hospitals and VA clinics in Washington DC and I received a personal invitation to brief The White House Office of Public Engagement on our progress. Over 2,000 students have applied to our program and 900 students have graduated. We include educational opportunities, meaningful service, and nurture compassion. We know that our students will graduate from college - many in the healthcare career field, however if we can build a foundation of kindness while they are students, can that translate into compassionate healthcare? We believe in them and we believe it can! Dogs are accessible to 100% of the student population and a new dog visits each school day. Metrics that are being collected for the pilot are attendance rates (encouraging kids to come to school), test scores (supporting test anxiety), and lowering behavioral incidents. Your organization has successfully been certified as a Service Enterprise by Points of Light, the world's largest organization dedicated to volunteer service. With this certification, your organization joins a prestigious group of nonprofits committed to effectively delivering on their mission by strategically engaging volunteer time and talent. Without organizations like yours-dedicated to engaging volunteers to drive change - so many local needs would go unmet. With dedication like yours, so many lives are improved and your community is stronger. Twenty-five years ago, our founder, President George H. W. Bush, call on "the only resource we have that in times of need always grows: the goodness and courage of the American people." He described what he saw at work in the country as "a thousand points of light...a new engagement in the lives of others, a new activism, hands-on and involved, that gets the job done."Thank you for being a point of light, for building our nation's tradition of service and for getting the job done. On behalf of Points of Light, I am honored to welcome you to the Service Enterprise network. Show less
