For three consecutive years, I played a role in both the curriculum development and teaching of a course for senior undergraduate students who were planning to attend medical school. These students were on campus for 5 weeks in the summer and were part of the Joint-Admission Medical Program (JAMP) which helps students from disadvantaged backgrounds get accepted into medical degree programs within the state of Texas. In this course, students were presented with a patient and we utilized a flipped classroom method for the students to diagnose the patient while also learning basic science concepts underlying disease. With this course, we analyzed the entire disease state and interpreted the molecular aspects of diseases. Show less
