    • Unilever Research

      Aug 1983 - Aug 1984
Industrial experiance (3rd year of degree)

During my Mathematics and Computing degree I undertook a years experience with Unilever Research in Sharnbrook in Bedfordshire. I worked with some very smart people and took on two projects:1. Using advanced time series forecasting techniques I wrote a report projecting all the major economic indicators until the end of century (2000)2. Built a computer system to simulate a sausage production line! I called it ALSAC (Algin Line Sausage Air Computation) and it was used to experiment with various inputs such as; Extrusion rates, drying times, belt speeds etc. and determine their affects on production without having to actually build the production line. This was written in Fortran IV and was externalized so every parameter could be changed which provided a great operational research tool. A really great experience that I've referenced many times in later programming projects. Show less
