      Legal Intern

During my internship as a legal intern, I have been given the opportunity to assist Zhong Lun Law Firm ('Zhong Lun') in conducting a legal research on 'Carbon Finance', particularly in the field of finance and investment progress, both in China and the United Kingdom itself. In order to examine this matter on a global scale's perspective, I have prepared a report on the background and trading histories of both entities namely, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE) and London Energy Brokers Associate (LEBA). By coordinating with my supervisor, I have located, organized, and analysed legal information derived from credible sources. During the course of my research, I have ascertained the source of law regulating both aforementioned entities in the United Kingdom and surveyed the prospects for the European Union and China's carbon market in the future. With consideration to the pressing need for green finance, I have set out an analysis upon the green bond market as well. In the process of studying the interaction between institutional investors outside of China, I have collected and interpreted data and figures related to the green bond market in China. Studied operations of an international trade company and the mechanics of the global carbon trade market. Show less

      Trainee Associate

Being a pupil in the litigation department, I stumble on clients typically faced with contentious issues which are high value, reputation-threatening, and often multi-jurisdictional. In terms of the work itself, a real effort was made to accommodate my interests, and I was very fortunate with the supervisors I was placed with and the cases I have encountered. The main areas of law which I was exposed to, comprised of the following :(1) banking litigation - draft pleadings for for commercial banks in matter which claims for fraud against high ranking officers for losses sustained - engaged in loan agreement disputes for major banks in Malaysia - assisted on a daily basis in contested civil and foreclosure proceedings against judgement debtors - involved in numerous debt recovery actions that generally include civil, foreclosure, execution, bankruptcy and winding up proceedings (2) shipping and admiralty law - researched and analysed claims arising from dangerous product on board during loading resulting in property damage - assisted legal associate in claims against port authorities for damage to a vessel during loading - consulted dictionaries and produced a thoughtful and precise translation for various key documents for a cargo company based in China (3) arbitration for building works dispute - prepared notes of proceedings, drafted dispute resolution clause clearly and ensured that it is properly incorporated into the relevant agreement - assessed the scope of a jurisdiction clause which concerned the contractual interpretation that was necessary to ascertain the parties’ intentions - learned the process of judicially confirming an arbitral award and receiving a court-issued judgement Show less
